Day 1: Arrival in Mestia

Arrive in Mestia by car or plane from Tbilisi. Private transfers are available for an additional fee. After checking into the guesthouse, take a leisurely walk around Mestia to familiarise yourself with the area. The tour includes a visit to Margiani’s ancient living complex and the Svaneti History Museum. Finalise trek preparations with your guide before enjoying a traditional dinner at the guesthouse.

Day 2: Mestia - Jabeshi.

The trekking adventure begins with a hike from Mestia to Jabeshi, covering a total distance of 12 km over 6-7 hours. The trail starts at an elevation of 1,500 m above sea level, reaching a maximum altitude of 1,900 m before descending to 1,650 m. Overnight accommodation will be in a guesthouse in Jabeshi or, for those seeking a more rustic experience, camping under the stars.

Day 3: Jabeshi - Adishi

Trek from Jabeshi to Adishi, with a total walking time of around 6 hours. The trail leads through the Mulakhura Valley to Adishischala, starting at an altitude of 1,656 m, reaching a maximum elevation of 2,540 m, and ending at 2,100 m. Overnight accommodation will be in a guesthouse or, for those who prefer, camping under the open sky.

Day 4: Adishi - Iprali

Trek from Adishi to Iprali village in the Kala community. The journey begins at an altitude of 2,100 m, with the highest point reached at 2,700 m along the Ckhutnieri path, before descending to 1,900 m. Overnight accommodation will be in a guesthouse or, for those preferring a more immersive experience, camping.

Day 5: Iprali - Ushguli

Drive from Iprali to Ushguli, one of Europe's highest inhabited villages. After exploring Ushguli, enjoy a scenic hike to the Shkhara Glacier. Return to Mestia by car and check in to your guesthouse for the night.

What to Expect

 

This trekking tour in Georgia’s Svaneti region offers an immersive journey through the Caucasus Mountains. Weather conditions can be unpredictable, with cool evenings and a possibility of rain, especially in late spring and early summer. Participants should be prepared for varying terrain, including mountain paths and occasional stream crossings.

 

What to Pack

 

To ensure a comfortable and safe trekking experience, it is essential to bring appropriate gear. Sturdy trekking boots are necessary for the varied terrain, while a waterproof raincoat and a warm jacket will provide protection against changing weather conditions. Layered clothing is recommended to accommodate temperature shifts throughout the day. A refillable water bottle is essential for staying hydrated, and trekking poles can be useful for additional support on uneven paths. Sleeping bags are not required, but as luggage transportation between villages is not included, it is important to pack light. Travellers should carry only a small backpack with their essentials and avoid leaving valuables such as passports and money at the guesthouse in Mestia.

 

Inclusions and Exclusions

 

The tour includes accommodation in Mestia and all villages along the trekking route, with full-board meals provided, except on the first and last days when lunches are not included. A professional guide will accompany the group throughout the journey, and transport from Ushguli back to Mestia is covered. However, the tour price does not include personal expenses, entry fees to the History Museum in Mestia, or luggage transportation between villages. Main luggage can be stored at the guesthouse in Mestia. The minimum number of participants for this tour is two. If a group does not require the coach transfer from Tbilisi to Mestia, a discount can be arranged upon request. Accommodation

 

Accommodation is arranged in guesthouses along the trekking route, offering a comfortable and locally immersive experience. However, in some cases, guesthouse availability may be limited, and participants should be prepared to spend up to three nights in tents if necessary.
