Day One: Samarkand – Mountain camp Artuch (60 km, 2 hours).
Arrive in Samarkand, one of the oldest cities in the world and once the heart of the Great Silk Road and the capital of the Tamerlane Empire. After being greeted at the airport, transfer to your hotel for check-in and enjoy some free time. After lunch, embark on a scenic 2-hour drive (60 km) to Mountain Camp Artuch, situated at 2,200 meters in the Pamir Mountains. The journey offers stunning landscapes, and upon arrival, take time to acclimatise and enjoy the surroundings. In the evening, enjoy a hearty dinner at the camp, which provides comfortable accommodation and spectacular mountain views. Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and overnight will be spent at the Artuch Mountain Camp (2,200 m).
Day Two: Mountain Camp Artuch – Kulikalon Lakes (7 km, 5 hours).
After breakfast, begin your trek along a well-trodden trail that takes you up to Kulikalon Lakes, following the scree slope of the western part of the Kulikalon Basin. The steady ascent offers stunning views of three impressive peaks – Adamtash (4579 m), Mirali (5106 m), and Maria (4790 m), which form the famous Kulikalon Rock Wall. At the base of the wall, you'll find the turquoise beauty of Kulikalon Lakes, a necklace of shimmering lakes nestled in the landscape. Your camp for the night is set on a lush green meadow by Bibidjanat Lake, offering serene views of the surrounding mountains. The day’s hike will take about 5 hours, with an altitude gain of 642 meters. Meals include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with overnight accommodation in tents at an altitude of 2842 meters.
Day Three: Kulikalon Lakes – Alaudin Pass– Alaudin Lakes (7 km, 6 h).
Today’s trek takes you from Kulikalon Lakes to the Alaudin Pass (3757 m). The ascent provides a bird's-eye view of the Kulikalon Wall, Dushaha Lake, and the entire Kulikalon Lake system below. From the pass, enjoy sweeping views of the stunning Alaudin Lakes, as well as the towering snow-and-ice-clad peaks of the Fan Mountains, including Chapdara Peak (5049 m), Bodkhona Peak (5152 m), and Zamok Peak (5020 m). After soaking in the panoramic vistas, descend towards Alaudin Lakes, where your camp will be set for the night. The hike will take around 6 hours, with an altitude gain of 915 meters and a descent of 971 meters. Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with overnight camping at 2786 meters.
Days Four: Alaudin Lakes – Mutnye Lakes (5 km, 4 h).
After breakfast, set out for a 4-hour trek towards the Mutnye Lakes, named for the deep grey colour of their waters. Along the way, pass by the small Piala Lake, known for its distinct round-shaped bottom. The trail then leads you to the stunning Mutnye Lakes, nestled in the heart of the Fan Mountains, surrounded by some of the most beautiful peaks over 5000 metres, including Chimtarga (5489 m), Energiya (5120 m), Mirali (5106 m), Zamok (5020 m), and Bodkhona (5152 m). The lakes are particularly captivating at sunset, when the surrounding peaks are reflected in their still waters like a mirror. The day’s trek covers 5 km with an altitude gain of 700 meters, and after a scenic and peaceful day, your camp will be set at 3490 meters. Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with overnight camping near the lakes.
Day Five: Mutnye Lakes – the Cirque of Chimtarga Pass (4 km, 6 h).
Today, we ascend to the Cirque of Chimtarga Pass. While technically not difficult, the altitude gain of more than 1000 meters from Mutnye Lakes to the camp site will require effort. The rewards are spectacular views of the dominant peaks, including Chimtarga (5489 m) and Energiya (5105 m). Our camp will be set at an altitude of 4500 meters, marking the highest point of overnight stay on the entire trek. Due to the cold weather at this elevation, warm clothing will be necessary. The day's trek covers 4 km in 6 hours, with an altitude gain of 1010 meters. Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with overnight camping at 4500 meters.
Day Six: Chimtarga Pass – Bolshoje Allo Lake (12 km, 8 h).
Today we reach the highest point of the entire route at Chimtarga Pass (4780 m). From the pass, stunning views unfold: to the north, we see the towering peaks of Energiya and Chimtarga, while to the south, the peaks surrounding Mutnye Lakes come into view, including Zamok (5020 m), Bolshaja (Big) Ganza (5306 m), and Krasnye Zori (4746 m), among others. In the distance, the peaks of the Hissar Range and Zeravshan Range can also be seen. For many, this moment is the highlight of the trek. After soaking in the views, we descend into the Zindon Praviy (Right) River valley and reach Bolshoje Allo Lake, a stunning lake formed by an earthquake in 1912, nestled between dramatic vertical rock walls. The trek today spans 12 km over 8 hours, with an altitude gain of 280 meters and a descent of 1670 meters. Meals provided include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with overnight camping at 3110 meters.
Day Seven: Bolshoje Allo Lake – Archimaidan River (10 km, 6 h). Transfer to Penjikent (70 km; 1,5 h).
Today we descend along the Zindon River valley to the Archimaidan River valley, passing through a massive blockage caused by the 1912 earthquake that formed Bolshoje Allo Lake. Along the way, we will visit the beautiful Maloje (Small) Allo Lake, known for its emerald-turquoise waters, located at an altitude of 2340 meters. We will also stop by shepherds' dwellings and have the opportunity to taste ayran, a refreshing homemade fermented milk beverage. After our descent to the Archimaidan River valley, we will transfer to Penjikent, where we check in at the hotel. The trek covers 10 km in 6 hours, with an altitude descent of 1146 meters. Meals include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with overnight accommodation at the hotel.
Day Eight: Penjikent – “Jartepa” land border – Samarkand (60 km, 2 h).
After breakfast, we will transfer to the “Jartepa” Tajik-Uzbek land border for border formalities, then continue our journey to Samarkand. One of Uzbekistan's most renowned historic cities, Samarkand is over 2,750 years old and is famous for its rich history and stunning medieval Islamic architecture, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Upon arrival, we will check in at the hotel after 14:00 and have some leisure time to explore or relax. Meals include breakfast, with overnight accommodation at the hotel.
Day Nine: Departure from Samarkand
After breakfast, we will transfer to the airport for your departure, marking the end of the tour program. Meals include breakfast. Safe travels!
